Drawing Open is an umbrella trans-disciplinary drawing research community initiated by Massey University, Aotearoa/NZ; AUT (Auckland University of Technology), Aotearoa/NZ; Federation University, Aus; Wimbledon College of Arts, UK; Villa Arson, Fr; and Syracuse University, USA.

The aim is to engage in local and global issues through expanded drawing practices, ensuring that drawing is valued as a vital contributor to contemporary art, research and learning. Drawing Open is a responsive community that expands and contracts according to specific projects, prioritising collaborations between art, design, science, emerging technologies, economics, environment and ecology.

Founded on place-based research, each project will respond to the issues brought by the host location and local specialist knowledge to explore how the speculative nature of drawing can open up discourse about issues particular to the Anthropocene.

Drawing Open encourages student engagement in all research projects, enriching the member institution's pedagogical practices and programmes.
